Through the Runner’s Lens
When I was asked to participate in a 2-day Skora photo shoot in multiple locations across Seattle, I of course enthusiastically accepted. Not only am I a bit of photography buff, but a SKORA Ambassador and huge fan of the shoes from the beginning. Also I tend to be more of a solitary runner, so I was excited to meet more SKORA runners. All in all, this seemed like a fun way to spend two summer evenings.

Day 1 began on a hot and humid afternoon at Macrina Bakery in Queen Anne. This was the perfect location to showcase SKORA being a multi-purpose shoe beyond just running.
Coffee is a huge culture in Seattle and I always throw on my SKORA shoes for a trip to get my morning coffee or as a treat after a long or challenging run. The huge, open windows of the Macrina bakery provided a delightful breeze as we drank coffee in our bright colored Skora shoes. As these casual photos were being taken, we noticed just how many runners were passing by. We couldn’t help glancing at the shoes people were wearing and also getting anxious to take photo running, showcasing beauty in motion that are Skora shoes. There were 6 runners- 4 lovely ladies and 2 gentlemen all wearing different versions of SKORAS – tempo, phase, fit and core (sorry form, next time buddy). I was lucky to wear one of my favorite speed work shoes-the Phase in a brilliant blue as seen above. The photographer Michael made us feel so comfortable in our running shots- doing a variety of group, single, and double running shots, shouting out reminders like “act natural”. Run Real at its finest.
After the Macrina Bakery shots were complete, we moved down to Myrtle Edwards Park along the Puget Sound. This location has many great memories for me, as I used to live in Lower Queen Anne and train for many races along this route. You can’t beat the scenery here with the trail wrapping right next to the water, ferries, sailboats, cruise ships passing back and forth, and Mt. Rainer hovering in the background (on a lucky clear day). This was a natural place to photograph Skora shoes as it’s one of the most popular running and biking trails in Seattle. We took running, stretching, hanging out photos at various locations around the trail including the popular vine wall (which I recommend seeing in the fall with brilliant colors of red, orange, and yellow). Michael our photographer kept commenting on how perfect the light and shadowing was. After a few hours along the water, we closed day 1 with a beautiful sunset, which are common in Seattle in the summer.
Day 2 photoshoot took place at the University of Washington Arboretum with a smaller group of 4 runners. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I live less than 2 miles from the glorious haven of running trails and barely venture here. Just like day 1- this location is also one of the best places to run in Seattle. With high trees, lightly graveled paths, assortment in terrain with flat trails, hills, and stairs alike; we were able to get a variety of different shots displaying what running in Seattle is like and also how great our shoes perform on any surface. We battled running through bugs, wearing colors that blended into the backdrop too much (whoops my bad), and elements of lighting. Despite challenges, us runners will rise to the occasion.
I was fortunate enough to be able to see a sneak preview of some of the photos that were taken over the 2 days. Michael did an excellent job of perfectly capturing the beauty surrounding us- water, mountains, and greenery, while also displaying just how fun running and an active lifestyle (while in SKORA) can be. I’ve lived in many places and run in many different pairs of shoes and Seattle and these are my favorite combination. I’m looking forward to further exploring this wonderful place with the best shoes on my feet, whether there is a photographer nearby or not.
