Hills.
You gotta do em.
Don’t worry so much about upgraded GPS watches or nutrition. You must run up grades!
That’s where the ticket is, at the top. Run em hard in training so when the race comes around you can run up them easy but faster…and then you have enough gas in the tank to not be destroyed at the top so you can accelerate back down.
If you’re still not convinced, below are some quotes to get you up that hill!
—–
Attack the hill before it attacks you!
Hills are speedwork in disguise.
-Frank Shorter
You can never run a hill too hard; you will collapse before hurting it.
-Adam Born
It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.
-Sir Edmund Hillary
It’s easier to go down a hill than up it but the view is much better at the top.
-Henry Ward Beecher
Running hills breaks up your rhythm and forces your muscles to adapt to different stresses. The result? You become a stronger runner.
-Eamonn Coughlin
Many people shy away from hills. They make it easy on themselves, but that limits their improvement. The more you repeat something, the stronger you get.
-Joe Catalano
I love running cross-country…You come up a hill and see two deer going, ‘What the hell is he doing?’ On a track I feel like a hamster.
–Robin Williams
